| Bacteria Versus Viruses | |
Copyright © Ron Harder 2003
When you have an ear infection the first thing you are
likely to do is go and see your doctor, and the first thing
he is likely to do is give you an antibiotic. Sometimes
this antibiotic helps you and sometimes it doesn't, and
we should look at what antibiotics are, and why they
are used.
Antibiotics are defined as: "Certain chemical
substances, such as the compounds making up
penicillin, which are capable of destroying or
weakening bacteria". Another definition is: "A
substance that acts as an antibacterial agent, or a
compound that kills or prevents the growth of
bacteria".
Dr. Alexander Fleming discovered the first antibiotic
(penicillin) in 1928, but it was not until the early 1940's
that antibiotics became commonly known and used.
Antibiotics are designed to kill bacteria. They are not
selective about what kind of bacteria they kill, and so
they try to kill all of them.
Antibiotics were, and still are, considered to be a
magical cure for everything from infectious disease to
blood poisoning.
As a matter of record, antibiotics are prescribed for
outpatients approximately 150 million times a year in
North America. One third of these prescriptions are not
necessary and have no positive effect for the patient.
Antibiotics are routinely prescribed for ear infections,
whether they are caused by viruses or bacteria, but
doctors do not check to see if antibiotics are needed,
they simply prescribe them in an effort to treat patients
quickly.
What Is A Virus?
Let's look at what viruses and bacteria are for a
moment. A virus is described as a "minute parasitic
microorganism much smaller than a bacterium that,
having no independent metabolic activity, may replicate
only WITHIN a cell of a living plant or animal host".
Another description would be that "a virus is a very tiny
infectious agent that lives within a host cell".
A virus consists of a core of nucleic acid (DNA or
RNA) surrounded by a coat of antigenic protein. The
virus provides the genetic code for replication, and the
host cell provides the necessary energy and raw
material for the virus to grow.
Viruses are believed to account for 90% of all
infections in children, including colds, flu's, upset
stomachs, diarrhea, etc. It is also estimated that up to
40% of all ear infections are caused by viruses. More
than 200 viruses have been identified as capable of
causing disease in humans.
What Is Bacteria?
Bacteria are single cell organisms that do not have a
nucleus and are among the most simple and most
abundant life forms on earth. They are larger infectious
agents than viruses, and are cells that live OUTSIDE
the host cell. We find bacteria on our skin, in our
digestive tract, and in every other part of our body.
The bacteria in our digestive tract is meant to be there
and is responsible for digestion, breaking down waste
products, and also for producing essential vitamins that
our body needs. Bacteria are common in all aspects of
nature, including all forms of plant life, all forms of
animal life, and are abundant in our soil. They are used
to break down dead tissue so that microbes can be
recycled.
What most people don't know is that antibiotics are
only effective against bacterial infections, not viruses.
This is because viruses are very tiny and live INSIDE a
host cell where the antibiotic cannot reach them.
Bacteria on the other hand are cells that grow
OUTSIDE the host cell and can be attacked by
antibiotics. Therefore, up to 40% of ear infections, strep
throat, and some forms of pneumonia cannot be cured
with antibiotics because they are caused by viruses, not
bacteria.
Candida
Let's look at this imbalance for a moment. Candida
Albicans is a yeastlike fungal microorganism (a fungus)
that normally lives in the gastrointestinal tract. It is
meant to live there, and in a healthy person it does not
cause a problem.
In the same gastrointestinal tract we have bacteria that
help you to digest your food. This bacteria is called
friendly bacteria, and it is absolutely essential for the
functioning of your digestive system. Your body
maintains a delicate balance between the Candida
Albicans and these friendly bacteria, with the friendly
bacteria controlling this balance.
When you have a bacterial infection in your body, you
go to your doctor and the first thing he is likely to do is
give you an antibiotic. Antibiotics kill the bacteria
causing the infection, but unfortunately, they also kill
the friendly bacteria.
Antibiotics do not kill a fungus, and therefore they
cannot harm the Candida, so when the friendly bacteria
is destroyed, the Candida population increases and soon
grows out of control.
Candidiasis affects both sexes, and mothers can easily
pass this infection on to their newborn. It seems to
strike women more often than men, and the most
common symptom of candidiasis in women is a yeast
infection. Candidiasis needs food to survive and seems
to thrive especially well on sugar and gluten.
Colloidal Silver
There is an alternative available to synthetic antibiotics,
and that alternative is Colloidal Silver. Colloidal Silver
was used as a natural antibiotic as far back as ancient
Egyptian times, and was also used in North America up
to about 1940.
It was not popular because of the cost of producing it,
and when synthetic antibiotics were developed and
used, Colloidal Silver was put aside. It is now much
less expensive to produce, and Colloidal Silver is
making a strong comeback.
There are a number of reasons why Colloidal Silver is
such a good antibiotic and I want to mention a few of
them. First of all, Silver is a natural trace element in our
soil, and were our soil not so depleted of minerals, we
would naturally obtain Silver through the fruits and
vegetables that we eat. Silver is a trace element,
something that our body needs and uses, and is not
toxic to us.
Colloidal Silver has been shown to kill over 650
different bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses, and
there are no known bacteria or viruses that can live in
the presence of silver. This means that resistant strains
cannot develop, and that Colloidal Silver can be used
for all infections, whatever they are caused by.
Colloidal simply means "suspended" so what we really
have when we say Colloidal Silver are tiny particles of
silver, .005 microns in diameter or smaller, suspended
in pure water.
A micron is one millionth of a meter in diameter, and
an object at .005 microns has the ability to go anywhere
in your body and fight infection. Viruses on the other
hand are as small as .05 microns, and so you can see
that anywhere a virus can go, Colloidal Silver can
easily follow.
The presence of Colloidal Silver near a virus, fungi,
bacterium, or any other single celled pathogen disables
its oxygen-metabolism enzyme and effectively
suffocates the pathogen. It then dies and is cleared out
of the body by the lymphatic and elimination systems.
In this way Colloidal Silver naturally and dramatically
boosts the effectiveness of your bodies immune system.
Synthetic antibiotics destroy friendly enzymes in your
digestive tract, but Colloidal Silver leaves these
enzymes alone because they are different from single-
celled life. That means that your digestive system will
not be affected, and this, along with Colloidal Silvers
non-toxic properties, makes it absolutely safe to use.
Also, Colloidal Silver has no known side-effects such
as you will find with synthetic antibiotics.
