| Healing Herbal Teas To Combating Colds & Flu! | |
© By Lena Sanchez
With the colds and flu season just around the corner here in
the Western hemisphere we know old man winter is closing in
upon us and a perfect time to sit with a cup of hot tea and
enjoy the cold crisp air while making our bodies healthier.
Tea is such a refreshing and nice way of enjoying life but is
also a mode for keeping healthy or treating some simple
everyday health problems. Listed here are a few of my favorites.
You might want to print this out to keep.
Since coffee has become such a habit with the largest part
of the population we find far more illnesses and diseases,
could there be a correlation?
Studies done at Tufts University of Boston and the University
of Connecticut show tea to be great antioxidants. That means
it neutralized the free radicals that cause cell changes and
produce cancer.
So drink tea and know you are getting healthier. Green
Tea is one of the highest in antioxidant properties, can be
found in any grocery store or health food store traditionally
served with Asian foods.
Researchers at Purdue University in Indiana reported that
a compound in green tea called EGCG inhibits the activity of
an enzyme required for cancer cell growth, which explains
why previous studies have found that people who drink four
or more cups of green tea daily run a lower than average
risk of cancer.
Teas alone should never be used as a total healing process
and is far more effective as a preventative measure or used in
conjunction with herbs as a treatment modality.
Teas are usually recommended for milder forms of problems
or in conjunction with other herbs. More severe problems
call for Tincture of herbs, which is the stronger!
Pre-nineteenth century hot herbal tea was the chosen morning
drink but that went by the wayside when coffee came upon the
scene and tea is not now drunk in too many societies on a daily
basis, which is sad.
Tea for some people is an acquired habit and one that should
be worked to acquire in order to assure a healthier mind and
body in which to deal with the high-pressure world that now
exists.
Brewing Teas is a very controversial topic in the tea drinking
society but my recommendation is that most teas can be
brewed in much the same way and still be very effective. I
hope these teas give you great joy and health for all seasons.
BREW: That is Put two teaspoons of herb in a cup fill with
boiling water. Cover and let seep for 10 to 20 minutes.
Strain and drink three or four times daily as needed.
Most teas are great immune system boosters as well
as a pleasant social Drink! Not everyone enjoys the same
tastes or flavors and the following list will give you a choice.
Try one or more until you find the one you enjoy the most or
that does the most good for you!
With fall just around the corner in many parts of the world
there is a need for extra protection and immune boosting,
making herbal tea one of those protections! Especially since
cold winter weather in most parts of the country brings on a
more sedentary life style that creates circulation problems in
and of itself. One of the first teas that come into mind being;
* RED CLOVER - For those with hypertension (high blood
pressure) and also promote better circulation and supports
people with skin problems or coughs and colds.
Use 1 ounce of Red Clover (Trifolium pratense)
1 pint of water in a covered pot
Simmer on burner for 10 minutes.
Strain and allow cooling to room temperature.
You may Drink on hot days iced as well for the same benefits.
**My all Time Favorite everyday tea, which is a great immune
booster and throat soother!
*LEMON & HONEY TEA
1 Tablespoon Real Lemon Juice concentrate or 2 Tablespoons
fresh squeezed lemon juice.
1 ½ to 2 teaspoons of honey
8 oz cup of boiling water
Mix and drink. So soothing when you have a scratchy sore
throat or sniffles caused from a cold or seasonal allergies.
Most days I have a cup just for enjoyment but at the same
time know that getting a lot of good antioxidants and Vitamins
improves my health.
*OLD HOME REMEDY
This tea has been passed down for hundreds of years and
has been given several names of which I will not try to name.
Does not taste as good as it sounds but really works well.
Wash fruits well with disinfectant wash.
Into a blender put: (I have my trusty Vita Mixer that works
extremely well) 2 medium or 1 large unpeeled orange, cutup
to blend faster.
1 unpeeled lemon, cut up in pieces.
5 cloves of peeled garlic.
two large tablespoons honey.
1 avocado.
Add small amount of water to help with liquefication.
Add a Tablespoon of good powdered Vitamin and mineral
compound or 1 teaspoon of Life Transfusion ionic liquid
minerals. (You might want to use your vitamin and/or mineral
pills for this one as a way of getting rid of them since they
usually are not absorbed when swallowed whole. Two or
three pills pulverized by the blender)
Blend on high until liquefied. May be heated as a tea or add
1 cup of ice to blender to make a shake. Drink 6 ounces as a
liquid drink or 8 ounces as a shake every two to three hours,
until cold symptoms subside. If you have a sore scratchy
throat hot is best!
* ECHINACEA TEA
A great antibiotic as well as immune system booster and
helps you get over colds and flu faster or great for building
the immune system to ward of colds and flu.
There are many good Echinacea teas in health food stores
and much easier to make, but if you have your own
Echinacea plants, use them, since fresh is always better!
*LOTUS ROOT TEA, found in most health food stores, is an
Effective ANTIBIOTIC TEA for a COLD or FLU,
I realize that only about 80% of people react the same to
certain treatments whether it is tea, drugs, prescriptions,
alcohol, etc. So use teas as a healing herb with that in mind.
