| What do Prescriptions and Dentists have in Common? | |
Saliva in the mouth serves a purpose and when robbed of it
sends you to the dentist! Saliva not only helps wash your
mouth but also contain enzymes that starts digestion of
sugary sticky substances while in the mouth.
What robs saliva from your mouth? A large number of
prescriptions create a side effect of "dry mouth." Read
your flyer that comes with your prescription or read the side
effects on bottles of over the counter medications. Dry
mouth simply means saliva is not being created as nature
intended it to be therefore robbing you of the digestible
enzymes and the continuos bathing of the mouth that occurs.
Without saliva sugars and sticky foods can remain undigested
since saliva digests foods and drinks, especially sugary things.
Studies have documented tooth decaying from certain
prescriptions and clonidine in particular. Other findings
included many pain relievers such as Flexeril and Norflex and
others. In the same studies antidepressants, including Prozac,
as well as antihistamines such as Benadryl and Dimetapp were
also guilty of causing dry mouth and setting up a climate for
dental problems.
There are certain precautions that can be taken to help
prevent dry mouth and give saliva a boost.
1. Avoid sugary and sticky food and drinks.
2. Brush your teeth after eating, floss daily and go for dental
checkups twice a year.
3. Drink water often.
4. Talk to your doctor and see about maybe changing your
medication or the dose to help eliminate dry mouth as
much as possible.
5. Eliminate prescriptions by practicing natural health
prevention and corrections!
Wishing you good health and happiness!
