| Warning! Cancer in your bathroom? |  |
Did you know that your everyday personal care products might
contain ingredients that can potentially cause cancer?
Although most consumers read food labels, they need to be
educated to read personal care labels. Once you go to your
bathroom and compare your labels with this startling
information you will be shocked. For example did you know
there's a WARNING label on your toothpaste box? It says;
"WARNING: Keep out of the reach of children under 6 years of
age. If you accidentally swallow more than used for
brushing, seek professional help or contact a poison control
center immediately."
Ingredients like Sodium laureth-sulfate or sodium
lauryl-sulfate is common in most toothpaste, shampoos and
conditioners. This one ingredient is a know carcinogen which
can penetrate the skin, get into the bloodstream and
build-up in the brain, heart and kidneys. Studies show it
can cause hair loss, inhibit hair growth, cause cataracts,
and even damage children's eyes. Sls's corrosive "quality"
makes it the dominant chemical for industrial uses such as
garage floor cleaners, and engine-degreasers.
Propylene Glycol-industrial antifreeze, is found in nearly
all moisturizers. Your skin runs on water, not anti-freeze!
Material Safety Data Sheets state propylene glycol
penetrates skin and can cause your liver abnormalities and
kidney damage.
An article in The Boston Globe on September 6, 1997, cited
Senator Edward M. Kennedy's statement that the General
Accounting Office has identified more than 125 cosmetic
ingredients suspected of causing cancer - along with others
that may cause birth defects.
As we become health conscious, increasing our knowledge in
the importance of nutritional supplements, we should pay
attention to personal care products we use on a daily basis
that can potentially harm our overall health. What goes on
your body is just as important as what goes in your body.
